Everything is Not What it Seems
This installation is a manifestation of my experiences in our culture that have created a longing for a better future- politically and socially. I use my imagination, curiosity, and sense of freedom as a point of departure for most of my work.
An abstract depiction of a children’s room, a dream, or someone’s nightmare. A storybook, a toy room, or a playroom. By stepping into my painting, the viewer is stepping into a new world, another reality, a land of these shapes.
This installation of objects focuses on using painting to influence and react to space through the extension of objects. Obscurity is an idea that resonates heavily with my work and plays a role in how I communicate an experience. In what ways can I obscure the eyes of the viewer and what does that do to their experience?
Transformation and play are active in the imagery. The idea that everything appears one way, and yet, innately symbolizes something different juxtaposes the desire but inability to be mindful and spend enough time with objects to understand their true existence is what I am most interested in discovering.
